3 what were the effects of direct rule to the people of Tanganyika?

The system sparked wide spread rebellions as many people rose up against the harsh akidas and the jumbes rules.

There was the first rise of nationalism because many people started organizing them selves into revolutionary movements to struggle for their independence

Many African chiefs were stripped off their powers and replaced by the akidas and the jumbes from the coast

Africans who were cooperative and loyal to the German were appointed akidas

There were heavy taxation coupled with cruel methods of collection which resulted into uprisings
There was forced cash crop growing for example the German started forced cotton growing which irritated the Africans.

Africans also lost large chunks of their land to the German settlers who established large plantation growing.

There was a wide spread of discontent and resentment against the akidas and the jumbles and generally the German rule at large.

People including cheif were brutalized and humiliated as they were publicly flogged and beaten by the brutal akidas and the jumbes

African cultures and customs were eroded and replaced with the German styles

There was loss of lives and property was destroyed as the Germans wanted to suppress the Africans.

Africans were forced to labour for long hours on the German farms and road works where the little or no pay.

Infrastructure was built to aid the exploitation of resources  eg roads and rail ways ware constructed.

Previously independent states lost their sovereignty to the German and were no longer independent

Famine broke out due to unsettled life and the scorched earth policy which was used by the Germans
Western civilization was promoted as schools and churches were constructed.

In 1904 direct rule turned into indirect rule under the British administration.
