Why was the Uganda railway constructed by the British in the 1890s?

The British constructed the line to establish a firmer and effective control over their sphere of influence that was Kenya and Uganda.
It was also intended to ease the transportation of military personnel ,colonialists arms and administrors in Uganda.
It was built to help in the elimination of slave trade.because it could enable the abolitionists to move into the interior and also provide an alternative means of transport hence slave would no longer be needed to transport goods for long distances.
It was properly built to open up the interior for trade and commerce.it would in other words enable east africa trade with the entire world.
The line was built to encourage cash crop growing like cotton coffee, tea etc.which would lead to development.this is why it was extended to only areas of agricultural potential.
It was established to provide a safe easy and quick means of transport.
It was constructed to ease the work and the movement of missionaries who wanted improve the standards of living of Africans.and also to provide quick military help in case of attack on missionaries.
The British built the line in order to conform to the doctrine of effective occupation as demanded by the Berlin conference .
The line was constructed in order to forestall other powers like the Egyptians who had also shown interest in controlling Uganda.
It was also built to open up Uganda for resource for resource exploitation.that is why it was extended to area with minerals such as kasese and those with agricultural potential.
The line was also constructed because the IBEACO had recommended it.it had even surgery its route only that it did not have enough funds to construct it.
It was also built for strategic reasons I.e to protect the source and headwater of the Nile and also acts as a short cut to Egypt.hence connecting Egypt and the coast.
It was also intended to make the British east African territory self reliant and able to pay for its administration .hence raising funds for colonial administration.
After the second anglo-german agreement of 1890 the British had no fear of investing the money in Uganda.because germany had accepted Uganda and Kenya as British sphere thus making the construction of the line necessary.
