14 How did the world war 2 affect the nationalism of Kenya?

Many Kenyan fought in the war and served in the middle East Burma and India and Somalia  they fought side by side with the Europeans India and Arabs
The war exposed service men to better conditions in Asia and Europe they came back with a changed attitude towards colonialism and many ended up form associations to fight the misery and suffering them selves
The unemployment that resulted from the war  forced the ex-soliders to join militant groups like the may may to fight the colonialist and improve their living conditions
The myths that the whites were stronger than the Africans were cleared since the ex-soliders had realized that the whites also died at the same rate as the Africans as seen in the war.
The British colonial policy was also affected after the war,the British developed closer contacts with the Africans and this encouraged the growth of nationalism. Their attitude was that soon Africans
The war enabled Africans to expand their horizons and widen their thinking they came back with the ideas of liberty human Rights and democracy which they had not heard of before this encouraged them to fight and achieve these virtues
It created an economic force that speeder up the need for political power and economic independence. The kikuyu and the luo had broken into many Asian shops and generated a lot of wealth which enabled them to finance their movements
Africans after the war were allowed to participate in politics ie making laws and being represented on the legislative council
The formation of the united nations also encouraged the rise of nationalism. The UN was against colonialism and encouraged Africans to demand for self rule
The war encouraged educated Africans like jomo Kenyatta and Julius. Nyerere to organize and mobilize !masses to achieve self rule.many of them now knew what they wanted
However it was not only the world war II that inspired nationalism in Kenya but also the other factors like Indian independence, the emergence of an educated class of Africans.
